Axtra3D® Announces General Availability of Finalized True Silicone Solution

Spectroplast TrueSilX50 enhances Axtra3D’s Hi-Speed SLA 3D printing solution, making it the first to deliver applications for 100% True Silicone using photopolymerization AM.

April 8, 2025, Charlotte, NC – Axtra3D, a leader in Hi-Speed SLA 3D printing, has introduced Spectroplast TrueSilX50, a groundbreaking true silicone formulation designed exclusively for the Axtra3D Lumia X1 printer. The availability of this solution and material expands the Axtra Solutions™ portfolio, for industrial and healthcare applications.

Building upon Axtra3D’s no-tradeoff Hi-Speed SLA technology, TrueSilX50 enables the high-precision, high-speed printing of fully elastomeric silicone parts without compromising material integrity or performance. Its properties mark this as a significant breakthrough over extruded silicone, becoming the first pure silicone material to be processed using photopolymerization AM, achieving superior part quality, accuracy, and mechanical properties.

Unmatched Material Performance and Surface Quality

TrueSilX50, the first in a series of silicone materials, brings the durability and flexibility expected of molded silicone into a scalable, production-ready 3D printing process. With a 48A Shore Durometer, 330% Elongation at Break, and 22N/m tear strength, it meets the mechanical demands of medical, industrial, and wearable applications. Biocompatibility testing is currently in progress, and Axtra3D anticipates that this material will pass key biocompatibility tests, including Cytotoxicity, Skin Irritation, and Skin Sensitization, like the previous TrueSil Silicones from Spectroplast. Unlike extruded silicone, which struggles with layering artifacts and surface roughness, TrueSilX50 provides an ultra-smooth, precise, isotropic finish, eliminating inconsistencies and delivering exceptional feature detail, even in complex geometries.

“Since our inception, Axtra3D has focused on delivering advanced, reliable manufacturing solutions,” said Rajeev Kulkarni, CSO of Axtra3D. He continues, “With our proven success in mold production, expanding into true silicone AM is the next significant step. This silicone formulation and our HPS process ensure that parts retain the mechanical and chemical properties ideal for medical devices, wearable technology, and industrial components and seals. The biocompatibility, durability, and precision significantly increase its breadth of applications.”

Expanding AM Applications with Spectroplast TrueSilX50

TrueSilX50 removes traditional manufacturing constraints, and our early customers have indicated it to be an ideal solution for :

  • Healthcare & Medical – Anatomical models, wearable medical devices, baby care products, cosmetic applicators, vascular and organ models.
  • Industrial & Automation – Sealants, gaskets, keypads, waterproof enclosures, sanitary solutions for food processing, household appliances.
  • Audiology & Dental – Custom-fit hearing aids, mouthguards, dental appliances, ensuring superior fit, comfort, and reduced lead times.

The TrueSilX50 printing workflow has been fully optimized to ensure repeatability, reliability, and seamless production integration. With minimal post-processing requirements and no loss of material performance, TrueSilX50 provides an efficient, scalable solution for industries that require the highest level of precision, durability, and surface quality.

Axtra3D’s Lumia X1, powered by HPS technology, continues to set new standards for speed, accuracy, and material performance, eliminating traditional AM trade-offs and delivering the future of silicone additive manufacturing today.

About Axtra3D
Based in the US and Italy, Axtra3D is a global company specializing in Hi-Speed SLA systems that eliminates tradeoffs between print throughput, accuracy, feature resolution, and surface finish, typically found in traditional SLA or DLP systems.

The flagship Lumia X1 Hi-Speed SLA system by Axtra3D represents a significant advancement, combining its Hybrid PhotoSynthesis resin polymerization process with TruLayer, a layer separation technology. HPS utilizes both a laser and a DLP to image simultaneously, while TruLayer enables rapid detachment of the active print layer, resulting in a 20X throughput improvement while preserving the accuracy and fidelity of SLA parts.

Axtra3D operates with two business models.

Axtra Solutions™: This model provides fully optimized, turnkey 3D printing solutions. Customers receive complete print profiles fine-tuned for maximum performance and reliability, supported by Axtra3D’s Applications team and quality material partners.

Axtra OpenAccess™: This model further builds on Axtra Solutions™ and allows customers the flexibility to experiment with new materials and applications. It supports innovation and adaptability, enabling added flexibility.
