Axtra3D is pleased to announce the qualification and the immediate availability of two functional materials in 3D Systems’ Figure 4® PRO-BLK 10 and Figure 4® MED-WHT 10 for the Hi-Speed SLA Lumia X1.
July 9, 2024, Charlotte, NC – Axtra3D, Inc., a rising leader in advanced additive manufacturing, announces the qualification and the immediate availability of two functional materials in 3D Systems’ Figure 4® PRO-BLK 10 and Figure 4® MED-WHT 10 for the Lumia X1.
Figure 4 PRO-BLK 10 is a rigid, black, production-grade material with game-changing thermoplastic-like mechanical properties and long-term environmental stability. The combination of this material and the HPS process of the Lumia X1 fulfills the promise of additive manufacturing with true direct digital production of plastic parts. The HPS print process enables very fast print speeds (2 to 3 inches per hour, depending on geometry), and the simplified post-processing, which includes a single curing cycle and single solvent cleaning, delivers exceptional CAD-to-final part throughput.
This high-precision resin produces parts with a smooth surface finish and excellent sidewall quality, boasting outstanding mechanical properties and long-term environmental stability. With a heat deflection temperature of 70°C, 12% elongation at break, UL94 HB flammability rating, and thermoplastic behavior in necking at the tensile break point, it is an ideal material for tool-less, same-day production of motor housings, connectors, snap-fits, and automotive interiors. Our customers indicate that the combination of this material with the Lumia X1 innovations can replace injection molding or soft tooling processes for many geometries. It is available in all regions where the Lumia X1 is sold, except Japan.
The addition of a second material, the bio-compatible, high-temperature Figure 4 MED-WHT 10, increases the Lumia X1 material portfolio to 20 materials. This rigid white material is ideal for applications requiring biocompatibility and/or thermal resistance. It provides beautiful parts that can be sterilized and tested at high temperatures, exceeding 100°C. Capable of meeting ISO 10993-5 and -10 standards for biocompatibility (cytotoxicity, sensitization, and irritation), this material can also be sterilized by autoclave.
Our initial customers have successfully applied this material with the Lumia X1 for medical devices requiring biocompatibility, sterilization, and/or thermal resistance, such as surgical drill guides, bone-fracture models, and parts requiring rigidity, high-temperature resistance, water resistance, and crisp definition.
Both materials are immediately available for order for the Lumia X1 3D Printer and come with fully dialed process profiles and further build our suite of Axtra Solutions.
Axtra3D’s CSO, Rajeev Kulkarni, says, “Expanding partnerships with companies like 3D Systems allows us to create a robust material ecosystem, offering the best options in each category for our customers. The Lumia X1 stands out as a highly differentiated and versatile choice, thanks to its innovative hardware and superior materials. This supports both our Axtra Solutions™ and Axtra OpenAccess™ business models, the former provides fully optimized solutions, while the latter caters to customers experimenting with new materials and applications.”
About Axtra3D
Company
Based in the US and Italy, Axtra3D is a global company specializing in Hi-Speed SLA systems that eliminates tradeoffs between print throughput, accuracy, feature resolution, and surface finish, typically found in traditional SLA or DLP systems.
The flagship Lumia X1 Hi-Speed SLA system by Axtra3D represents a significant advancement, combining its Hybrid PhotoSynthesis resin polymerization process with TruLayer, a layer separation technology. HPS utilizes both a laser and a DLP to image simultaneously, while TruLayer enables rapid detachment of the active print layer, resulting in a 20X throughput improvement while preserving the accuracy and fidelity of SLA parts.
With a curated material portfolio, Axtra3D has developed over 15 certified solutions for industries such as Industrial, Healthcare, and Dental, serving a global customer base. These solutions range from direct-use ceramic molds to end-use electrical connectors, industrial parts, dental prosthetics, medical devices, jewelry patterns, and more. Axtra3D’s systems are available in North America, the EU, and Japan, and a broad range of customers have already benefitted from its diverse range of applications.
Axtra3D operates with two business models.
Axtra Solutions™: This model provides fully optimized, turnkey 3D printing solutions. Customers receive complete print profiles fine-tuned for maximum performance and reliability, supported by Axtra3D’s Applications team and quality material partners.
Axtra OpenAccess™: This model further builds on Axtra Solutions™ and allows customers the flexibility to experiment with new materials and applications. It supports innovation and adaptability, enabling added flexibility.
