Axtra3D announces the successful closing of a $4.5 million Series A2 funding round, led by HZG Group. This investment will drive the expansion of its customer support infrastructure, strengthen the global footprint, and accelerate the growth of its product portfolio.
November 11, 2024, Charlotte, NC – Charlotte-based 3D printer manufacturer Axtra3D Inc. has successfully closed its latest Series A funding round of $4.5M, raising a total of $9.75 million, with HZG Group as the lead investor.
This investment underscores the success and expanding influence of Axtra3D, built on its patented Hybrid Photosynthesis (HPS) technology, adaptable customer-centric business models, and a robust material ecosystem supported by partnerships with leading global material providers. With an already established second location in Vicenza, Italy, the funds will be instrumental in further expanding Axtra3D’s global market reach, broadening its product portfolio and further strengthening its post-sales support.
Frank Carsten Herzog, CEO of HZG Group, states, “Axtra3D has been one of our most successful investments in Additive Manufacturing. At a time when the AM industry is undergoing significant shifts, Axtra3D has excelled in expanding its installation base and application suite. Its solutions are strategically designed to address current market demands, and the leadership team – comprised of seasoned AM executives – has shown exceptional agility in navigating the company through these difficult times. We are especially impressed by Axtra3D’s consistent innovation and responsiveness to market needs. With this new capital, we believe the company is well positioned to expand beyond NA and EU and accelerate technological advancements to emerge as not just as a competitive player but also as a potential leader in AM.”
In 2023, Axtra3D introduced its flagship Lumia product line, built upon its patented, superior Hybrid Photosynthesis (HPS) and TruLayer technology platforms. HPS merges the advantages of resin-based stereolithography (SLA) and digital light processing (DLP) into a single, high-efficiency printing process, utilizing high-resolution light projection and a precision-controlled UV source to deliver outstanding accuracy and surface quality at speeds up to 20 times faster than traditional SLA. Unlike conventional approaches that often compromise between speed and quality, HPS achieves high throughput while maintaining exceptional detail. TruLayer technology enhances layer consistency and minimizes common printing artifacts and mechanical weaknesses found in traditional layer-by-layer methods, resulting in parts with superior strength, smoother finishes, and exceptional durability. This unique hybrid approach, which supports a wide range of materials, marks a groundbreaking innovation in 3D printing.
In a short period, it has enabled the organization to launch four distinct concept and low-volume mold printing solutions, true silicone printing, end-use connectors and specialized offerings for dental labs.
Gianni Zitelli, Founder and CEO of Axtra3D, stated, “We are incredibly grateful for HZG Group’s continued trust and support of our vision and business. Our aim is to build Axtra3D into a self-sustaining, financially responsible company; and HZG’s support through this new funding underscores our leadership team’s commitment to that vision – achieving growth even amid difficult times in the additive manufacturing industry.
This funding is also a validation of our strategic focus on customer partnerships and support. A significant portion of the investment will go towards strengthening Axtra Academy, our dedicated customer support infrastructure. Our approach is distinguished by flexible business models that offer adaptable solutions to meet the diverse needs of our customers, from service bureaus to large-scale manufacturers. These models are enhanced by our extensive ecosystem of partnerships with leading global material providers, ensuring our customers have access to a broad selection of certified, high-performance solutions for various applications.”
Axtra3D continues to focus on expanding its global presence via reseller and distribution partnerships and welcomes interested partners to open discussions.

About Axtra3D
Company
Based in the US and Italy, Axtra3D is a global company specializing in Hi-Speed SLA systems that eliminates tradeoffs between print throughput, accuracy, feature resolution, and surface finish, typically found in traditional SLA or DLP systems.
The flagship Lumia X1 Hi-Speed SLA system by Axtra3D represents a significant advancement, combining its Hybrid PhotoSynthesis resin polymerization process with TruLayer, a layer separation technology. HPS utilizes both a laser and a DLP to image simultaneously, while TruLayer enables rapid detachment of the active print layer, resulting in a 20X throughput improvement while preserving the accuracy and fidelity of SLA parts.
With a curated material portfolio, Axtra3D has developed over 15 certified solutions for industries such as Industrial, Healthcare, and Dental, serving a global customer base. These solutions range from direct-use ceramic molds to end-use electrical connectors, industrial parts, dental prosthetics, medical devices, jewelry patterns, and more. Axtra3D’s systems are available in North America, the EU, and Japan, and a broad range of customers have already benefitted from its diverse range of applications.
Axtra3D operates with two business models.
Axtra Solutions™: This model provides fully optimized, turnkey 3D printing solutions. Customers receive complete print profiles fine-tuned for maximum performance and reliability, supported by Axtra3D’s Applications team and quality material partners.
